I would appreciate if ...Case of the missing it
Are you guilty of using this phrase in your emails?
 
I often get emails from writers that say things like:
 
"I would appreciate if you could reply to this email asap" or "I would appreciate if you accept this article for publication".
 
I appreciate all the appreciation. However, what I do not appreciate is wrong usage of phrases.
 
"Appreciate if..." is incorrect.
 
An example of the correct usage of the phrase is "I would appreciate it if you could send me a copy", which is actually a very polite way of demanding something. Or you could say, once you receive the copy, "Thanks for sending me a copy. I appreciate it".
 
In the future, I would appreciate it if you could remember the "it".

Thank you. This is very helpful. It has never occured to me that the word "it" could make a difference.
